Contresens is the French word meaning, misinterpretation. However Contresens isn’t just reserved for those things lost in translation, it is lost in translation itself, as the word is made up of French words: Contre meaning “against” and Sens which means “direction”. This collection is an exploration and adaptation of traditional men’s work wear in western culture. The collection seeks to go against the direction of a look typically associated with menswear by adding details typically associated with womenswear. Through the use of shape and material, recognizable work wear garments are given a feminine flare. With menswear being the origin of inspiration here it’s easy to see the misinterpretation, as the end result is an overtly feminine line up. With clothing becoming increasingly genderless in the modern age reinterpretation is an even more fitting description.
